Montecristi

Montecristi is a small town located in the province of Manabi. It’s near a major port city called Manta, which has become somewhat popular thanks to the fact it’s a stopping place for a lot of cruises. Montecristi was formed in the 1530s, when locals had to run away from the pirates and conquerors that arrived in the city of Manta back in the day.

Things to do

There’s not a whole lot to do in Montecristi, but it’s a good pit spot if you’re passing by or if you’re looking to get yourself a famous “Panama Hat”. The other things that might be interesting to check out if you like culture and history is “La casa de Alfaro”, which is a museum dedicated to a famous Ecuadorian called Eloy Alfaro, who led the Ecuadorian people in the liberal revolution 1895. Also, there is a pretty nice golf club where you can stay in or simple go have a fun day golfing, which by the way, isn’t very common in Ecuador.

How to get there

The best way to get there is by car of course. A simple typing in google maps will get you there – isn’t google maps awesome? –. If you don’t have a car, you can take a bus from the bus terminal in Manta, which is thankfully one of the few terminals in Ecuador where you can access bus routes and schedules.
