I woke up because I heard laughing. Such familiar sound, but I couldn’t place it anymore. I opened my eyes, scared of what I would see before me. When I saw him, I felt nothing but relief. I wasn’t alone anymore. I sat down in complete awe of what was happening. He gently grabbed my face, and he wiped the tears away. He smiled at me, a smile that filled me with hope.
– Are you ready? – He said in a calm, rough voice.
– Ready for what? –
I was so confused; my head was a complete mess. I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t even comprehend the idea that I was still alive and breathing. Let alone understand what he was talking about.
– Why are you crying? – He asked, completely ignoring my previous question.
– I… I’m alone now. –
– Are you really? I’m here –
And he was, I could feel him there with me. I didn’t understand it, but he was as real as I was, if not even more. He turned his head and looked at the horizon.
– It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it? – He wasn’t wrong, it definitely was one of the most beautiful days I had ever seen, and I had seen a lot of them living here. You could spot every color of the rainbow in the sky, you could even spot colors you had never seen before. Seeing the colored clouds move slowly but steady, with no intention of stopping, was hypnotic.
– Why can I see you? – I asked, remembering it was completely impossible that he was there with me.
– Who knows? – He shrugged. He seemed sincere, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that he knew more than he was saying.
– Are you back? Like, back back? – I asked. He looked at me and laughed.
– How… Can I… Be back from the dead? – He couldn’t even string a sentence together without laughing, and I could do nothing more than stare at him with shock in my eyes. What the hell was going on here?
