On the sand

today we sat

we sat on the warm sand

always warm, the sand

even when everything else is cold

I rest my head on your shoulder, like the first time. And we watched as the sun and the ocean were getting closer to each other. We hadn’t in a long time. I missed that feeling. It was like the first time I took you to that spot. Staring at the moon instead of the sun. I wondered where all the time had flown to.

I started thinking about our future. I love imagining where we will be years from now. The future is changing, you can’t really know what’s going to happen. I learned this a long time ago. As I do whenever I’m about to watch a sunset, I started thinking about what I was going to wish for when the sun met the ocean. We never actually got to see it.

I was going to wish for us to be right there, looking at the sun in our older days, until the day we’re gone.
