The Coast

Like I said before, Ecuador has four worlds in one country, and every one of those worlds is infinitely different than the others. It would amaze to know exactly how different they are, sometimes it feels like it’s four different countries we’re talking about. The first one I want to tell you about is the Coast, why? Because it’s my home, it’s where I grew up and it’s the one I know best.

The Coast region is basically every part of mainland Ecuador that is in contact with the ocean, this means you’ll get a lot of roads with amazing views of the ocean, and a bunch of small towns with pretty cool beaches. To be honest, it’s my dream and goal to grab a couple of friends and road trip down the “ruta del spondylus”. This route goes through pretty much the whole coast, and it covers almost every single beach you should see here in mainland Ecuador. It’s pretty fun to travel through and there is so much to see I would give myself a couple weeks to do it, this is considering the whole route takes about 9 hours of driving without stopping from start to finish.

If you’re interested in getting to know the Ecuadorian Coast, well, adventure awaits. To guide you a little better on the many activities, beaches, towns and cities you should check out, please check out the posts under “The Coast”. Each and every one of them will be filled with stories and information about the specific places I recommend you visit. Every city, beach or town I talk about under the category “The Coast” can be seen along the ruta del spondylus, so it would benefit you to get yourself a guide of the route to move through it more smoothly. Or, if you’re like me and you prefer to do everything on your phone, google maps is pretty updated, not only on the roads but restaurants and hotels you can find along the way. Keep in mind, asking the locals is always useful, and it will always lead you to finding new things and great adventures, but this means you need to be fluid in Spanish to be able to ask them what you need and understand their answers. If you’re one of those people that enjoys going with the flow and just letting life take wherever it wants you to go, this route is perfect for your thirst for adventure. Local people are very nice and will always point you towards where you want to go in the best way they can.
